In Pastoral Care/Counseling, it is foundational to set the “frame” of your time together with the parishioner. We will discuss why this is not only essential to the integrity of the pastoral care/counseling process, but to the integrity of the pastor, herself/himself. While “informed consent” is common (and in some cases, legally necessary) within secular counseling, it remains seldom practiced within settings of pastoral counseling – despite the great potential for benefit and enrichment of the work.
In this 90 minute webinar, we will discuss some of the issues that should be included at the outset of – or better yet, before – pastoral care/ counseling ensues.

Melissa Hofstetter, PhD, MDiv is an ordained Mennonite minister, having served as district elder in the Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference. She is also a licensed clinical psychologist (ASPPB PsyPact Interjurisdictional Telehealth Psychologist; CA, PSY25696; AZ #4125). She is the founder of Shepherd Heart. Dr. Hofstetter has been a seminary instructor in Pastoral Counseling & Congregational Health, and served as adjunct professor in the doctoral and undergraduate psychology departments at Azusa Pacific University, teaching courses in Neuroscience, Adult Development, Family Systems, Cognition, General Psychology, Personality.
