Rev. Dr. Meghan Good

When our youth director stuck his head in my office one windy February afternoon and said, “Want to fly a kite with me?” at first I thought he was joking…

But when he passed by my door again a few minutes later, this time with kite in hand, I realized this was happening—right here, right now. For a moment I debated—the work I still had to finish, the errands I had to run. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in this last year of COVID, it’s the importance of seizing life’s small gifts. So I quickly closed my laptop and chased after him.

In the end, three of us from our staff spent an hour in the church parking lot, taking turns running in our business shoes, launching the kite up to catch the wind’s current. Standing there with my head tipped up, watching the pop of color dance across the darkening sky, was the most restorative part of my week.
